After learning a little bit about Japanese, and their celebration of Valentine's Day, I find it very interesting. The whole exchanging gifts, and returning them a month later is something very new and different from other cultures I've heard about. The only thing I'm curious about is if most Japanese still follow up on this tradition, especially the younger teens.
I don't think that people are unconsciously manipulated by the propaganda put out in the business industry. Although advertising does have a little to do with manipulating people into buying products, I don't think people just buy them for no reason. Everyone has a reason to buy something, even if they are unsure about it. If they had no interest in the product, they wouldn't be so drawn to it in the first place.
If I was a US international student in Japan, I think I would like to participate in the Japanese Valentine's Day. I think experiencing it once would be interesting and something new for a change.
Many japanese people follow the tradition. we are easy to follow what everyone tend to do.
